Caroline Makes It!

Yarnspy is always on the look out for fabulous new businesses and will regularly showcase new talent. Caroline Bradshaw @carolinemakesit on Twitter kindly agreed to do the first interview – so here goes :

Tell everyone a little about yourself?

I’m Caroline Bradshaw, happily married to my Maths teacher husband, and mother to my gorgeous daughter who turned four at the start of January.I’m originally from Aberystywyth, Mid-Wales, and now living in leafy Dorset. I work part time at our local wool shop – and also volunteer one day a week at Sherborne’s Sue Ryder charity shop. I have been knitting since a child, taught first by my Grandfather, and later my mother. It was also my mother who last year taught me to crochet, a craft I totally love! I am crocheting or knitting virtually all the time, and when I’m not I will usually be thinking about the next project! I will always have a ball of yarn and a crochet hook in my handbag just in case! – You never know when you might get stuck queuing at the post office, in a doctors waiting room etc!

When did you start your business and what inspired you to start it?
I started my folksy site in September 2012, it was largely in response to friends and family badgering me into believing that people would actually buy what I made. I had been making clothing and accessories for them for a little while, and always received such positive feedback, that I decided that it was time to take the plunge! It is still early days, but every sale is so exciting and spurs me on to do more.
What are you favourite products you have made to date?
I have a few favourite items – sales wise, my Granny Square bags are really popular. Its such a versatile design, you can use any yarn, any colour combinations, you are only limited by your own imagination. On a more personal level, I love seeing my daughter running around in cardigans that I have made, it gives me an enormous sense of pride.
Where do you sell your products?
All my items are available for sale from my folksy shop , I also stock items in my local wool shop, where I work part time,
What are your goals for your business for 2013?
2013 is going to be a really exciting year for ‘Caroline Makes It’. I have some exciting partnerships in the pipeline (watch this space!) and a notebook full of ideas for new products. I am exploring the idea of knitting and crochet with wire and hoping to have some new items for sale really soon.
Caroline blogs at – we wish her every success for 2013!
